Public Sculpture

El Paseo Invitational Sculpture Exhibition, Palm Desert, Ca.

Every two years Palm Desert juries sculpture for public art on El Paseo, seventeen pieces were selected and my piece "Cloudburst" was one of them. The piece deals with improbability-the improbability of a cloudburst on El Paseo.Like all weather systems "Cloudburst" is in constant flux. In daylight the cloud is prominent, and especially the way the light plays on the surface; at night the rain rods are more visible and take on a kinetic quality from the lighting and the cars passing. The rods are powder coated steel, and the cloud is urethane foam with a fiberglass membrane.
